How does browser-based PDF compression work?
Each page is rendered with pdf.js, then re-encoded as an optimized JPEG and rebuilt into a new PDF. This dramatically shrinks scans and image-heavy files right on your device.
Will my text stay selectable?
No — pages become high-resolution images, so text can no longer be selected or searched. If you need selectable text with mild compression, keep the original for editing and use the compressed copy for sharing.
What compression can I expect?
Scanned documents typically shrink 60–90% at the Balanced preset. PDFs that are already mostly text and vector graphics may not shrink much — they are already efficient.
Is there a size limit?
No server quota — your device memory is the only limit. Files of 100+ MB compress fine on a typical laptop.
